I'm posting all the latest appeals for abandoned dogs in Italy on this page and older appeals on a separate 'still waiting' page. Please don't forget about them. They are still waiting patiently, many have been waiting for years.
If you are thinking of getting a puppy or adult dog, then please consider one of these lovely homeless dogs in Italy looking for new owners. If you can't adopt, please tell as many people as you can about this page. If you do decide to get one then let me know and I will post the happy ending on the adopted page of the blog. Nothing would make me more pleased.
MILAN
Tata is a lovely little sweetie around 18 months old and still hasn’t found a home yet. Her mother has been adopted but not her. Why? We don’t understand it. Could it be her great big ears? Well, nobody seems to like those great big ears and Tata has grown up without being adopted. She is a lovely little dog, very sweet natured and affectionate with people and gets on quite happily with dogs and cats. She is medium to small (in the photo she was just a little puppy) and is very good in the house. No problems. She is in Milan and can be visited by appointment. ROME
This is Angelino, a tiny fluffy little old dog who is almost totally blind, although he manages to orientate himself reasonably well. They say when you go to caress him he closes his eyes as if he is about to be hit. Can you end his nightmare?
Also in Rome is Maiko a very old male Segugio who has forgotten what it is like to see grass or play outside. He is in a kennels in Rome where they only see cement and he has been there for too many years now. He never gets a pat or a kind word but he bears it all patiently and the only thing he can look forward to is dying. He was left there many years ago at the end of the hunting season and he wasn't very good as a hunting dog, so this was his punishment. He is very good with all male and female dogs, has been sterilized and is adoptable in Lazio or central and northern Italy with the usual pre adoption and post adoption checks. SALERNO but adoptable anywhere
Two inseparable and adorable little dogs, good natured and calm, it would be wonderful if they could be adopted together but we know that would be nothing short of miraculous. One thing is for sure they need loving families.
The first dog is female and between two and three years old. She is honey coloured and very vivacious and weighs around 7 kilos. Very affectionate.
The second is a male of 8 kilos who is very sweet and quite shy and always looking for the company of the female, who could well be his mother. Although quite shy he does like some cuddles and affection.

Amalia was
found in a little village called San
Gregorio near Aquila after a call from a lady who said she had been crying
desperately for a week. She went to ASL where she stayed for three days in a wicker basket with no wish to
communicate with anyone then on Saturday she was put in a kennel with some
puppies and thanks to these little ones she came back to life.
Amelia is
blind and at first because of her terrible mangy condition they thought she was
about ten years old, but judging by her teeth she is probably only about four.
She was washed and her hair and nails clipped and treatment has been started
for the mange. During all this she never uttered a sound or complained at all,
all she wanted was some human contact. You speak to her and she follows the
sound with her nose.
She is
adorable, and needs lots of love and cuddles. Yes, she is blind, but she is a
wonderful dog and we’re looking for a wonderful home for her too, even though
we know the chances of her being adopted are slight. . Even a temporary one. Please help her.

PRATO,TUSCANY
Orsa is not
even three months old. This furry little teddy bear will
probably end up being a medium sized dog (approx. 15 kg). She is affectionate
and very sweet natured and is looking
for a loving home which will be checked
in advance and must be sterilized.
TUSCANY
This is Nana who is about 7 months old and the vet has said
she will not grow any bigger. She
has a lovely nature, well behaved in the house, she is house rained and doesn’t
bark, in fact you would hardly know she was there. She’s already been spayed microchipped
and vaccinated and is now looking for a family who will love her and give her
the affection she deserves.
MESSINA,SICILY
This poor
puppy has had atrocious luck. She was saved from the flooding at Messina a
month or so ago and taken straight to the pound. Unfortunately she was attacked
by another dog and badly bitten and since then she has been unable to use the
hind paw as she has got problems with her tendons.
She can be
adopted anywhere in Italy, with the usual pre and post adoption checks.

TURIN
Tao is ten years old and has been kept in a
house with his family since he was a puppy. Now they can no longer keep him and
are urgently seeking a new home.
He’s been microchipped and is healthy. He’s a
very good boy and gets on well with both dogs and cats. He loves playing and
running – and life.
To be honest, in view of his age and the number
of similar cases around, there isn’t a lot of hope that he’ll find a new home
but we have to do our best to give him a fighting chance by spreading the word
on the internet. You never know…
He can be adopted as long as pre and post
adoption checks are carried out. We hope his new family will be located in
Piemonte somewhere
Montelibretti, Rome
There have been no enquiries at all for little
Alberto. He’s about three months old and will probably grow to be a medium size
dog. He is affectionate and deserves someone to love him.
He is adoptable anywhere, as long as the pre
adoption checks are carried out.

Rex was
adopted three years ago from the dog pound at Lucignano when he was a puppy and
since then he has been part of the family, allowed on the settee, always with
his owners, home cooked meals, he was the baby of the family… but now everything
has changed for poor bewildered Rex. Yes, a real baby has arrived and so ‘the
dog’, as he is now referred to, has to
go.
Obviously
the family have given no thought to retraining him or even teaching him to
accept children and get him used to the idea before the baby was born. Non, no,
it’s baby in , dog out. All this despite the fact he is good with children too!
He is good
tempered and likes people. He is (obviously) used to living in the house. He
doesn’t get on with other male dogs.
Can anyone
please help Rex?

Now Power
needs a home where at long last someone will love him and care for him in a way
he has never known in his poor, sad life.
PS: They named
him Power because he’s got such a strong will to live and dreams of the day he
will run and play without pain.

UMBRIA
Urgent home
needed for 10 year old collie bitch called Zoe whose owner tragically died
after a fire in her kitchen. The dog is at ENPA at Collestrada and is in
desperate need of a good loving home. She is very well behaved, very
affectionate, a really lovely "Lassie" girl, domesticated and not
especially active, but being at ENPA, in spite of all their kindness, is
absolutely not good for her as she would dearly love a new home.

TURIN AND SURROUNDING AREA ONLY
Carlotta and Oliver are puppies approximately six
months old and are now in Turin having been transferred from Sicily. Theirs is
a sad story. They were found in the street after their mother was killed. The
first to arrive in Turin was Carlotta along with two of her little sisters who
have now found homes. Oliver
stayed in Messina in a grave condition and it was thought he probably wouldn’t
make it. But fate decreed otherwise and Oliver recovered. He’s now reunited
with his sister Carlotta in Turin. When
they saw each other again, hard as it may be to believe, they recognised each
other immediately and were so excited to be back together again. For this
reason we have decided they must be adopted together so they need never be
separated again.

AREZZO
Agata is a
black and white small to medium size dog. She’s seven years old, weighs 15
kilos and has leishmaniasis, although it is being kept under control with
medicine and none of her vital organs have been affected. Since her treatment started
she is looking much better, is now eating well and always crying to be let out
for a walk.
She is
currently in a canile (dog pound) in Arezzo and spends her days in the corner
of her cage, sitting on a concrete floor. It’s unlikely anyone local will want
her as she has leishmaniasis, so she is condemned to spend the rest of her life
there, alone and unwanted.
Agata has
been very badly treated in the past and needs a loving home with people who
have the patience and love to help rebuild her trust and give her the security
she so desperately needs.
One of the
volunteers who visited her at the canile in Arezzo was so deeply affected by the
little dog that she desperately wanted to adopt her herself but sadly she just
can’t as her job takes her away a lot.
Can you
help this poor dog? If not she will end her days in the canile without ever
having felt love or that anyone cared about her at all.

Malibu is,
incredibly, a Maremmano Sheepdog whose age is unknown, although he’s definitely
old. You can see his terribile condition from this photo. He is in the dog pound at the moment and recovering quite well, but
obviously he needs a warm kennel for the winter and some love and attention,
things until now that he has never had.
He has
leishmania and as you know a cure is not possible, it needs to be kept under control with
medicine and a special diet. All they are looking for with Malibu is for him to
find a better situation and for him to have an improved quality of life. Let’s
hope that the impossible happens for this poor dog and that the loving home he
dreams about really does exist somewhere. Can you help?

TUSCANYThis appalling picture shows Gretel, who has several health issues (to put it mildly) including mange and a problem with one of her paws. The volunteer who posted her appeal thought she had died and only recenlty rediscovered her in the pound. She needs urgent vet's attention plus analysis to see if she has any other problems. Can you please help her?
